 Household Vinegar (cleaning hacks)

Household Vinegar( cleaning hacks) has so much use around the house but it is not being used most of the time. First of all, it is very affordable and it can be used to clean from your bathroom to your kitchen. I like it for cleaning because it is not as harmful as bleach.

Here are a few ways you can use it in your home. Some of these ideas I have used myself and others I have heard about.

Great kitchen cleaner

It is great for making your kitchen pipes shiny, you can mix equal parts vinegar to equal parts water and spray your pipes and use a soft kitchen rag to wipe it off.

For stubborn watermarks, I normally mix baking soda with the vinegar and let it sit for a little while(wrap paper towel around the area) but be careful not to leave it there for too long. I had some damage to my faucet because I left it for hours. I know it works and your kitchen faucet will look brand new.

Vinegar is also great for cleaning drinking glasses just add a little to your rinsing water and it will make your drinking glasses nice and shiny.

Drain cleaner

pour some vinegar down your drain if it is clogged up, do not use the drain for a while. You can use it with some boiling water as well, but the household vinegar in the boiling water and pour it down the drain.

It is great for clearing clogged faucet, equal parts water to vinegar if the clogging is not so bad and if it is bad more vinegar than water. I remember I had a shower head that was the water was coming out of and I took it off and put it in only vinegar(no water) to soak and it worked; be careful do not let it stay too long or it damage the appearance of the faucet. If you are taking down the faucet, put vinegar in a plastic bag and tie it over the faucet, overnight.

Washing machine cleaner

I use it to clean my washing machine, whenever I start seeing fur on my clothes. Fill up the machine with water and pour in the vinegar, and do a full wash cycle.

Helps with odour problems

Sometimes the drains smell bad just pour a little vinegar down the drain. If after you have cooked the house smells of food, set on some water to boil and add some vinegar to it, let it boil for a while on low flame. It is just great for letting your house smell fresh.

Sanitizer and cleaner

It is a great way to sanitize both your bathroom and kitchen(less harmful than bleach). You can use it to wipe down your toilet, face basin, tiles and faucet in your bathroom. As a toilet cleaner, it is great, I saw an ugly stain on my daughter’s toilet the other day and I made a mixture of baking soda and vinegar and poured it in the toilet and let it stay for a couple of days and it is like brand new. I  could let it stay for days because she was not around, but I am sure if you can only let it stay for a couple of hours it would still work.

I pour some baking soda and vinegar on my tiles in my bathroom shower and leave it for about 2 hours, it is so easy to clean whenever I do that.

household vinegar is great to use in the kitchen to wipe down your counter, appliances, faucet, and sink.

I do not normally measure, that is why most of what I am telling you to have no measurements, I just use my judgment most of the time.

It is great for cleaning windows  Spring Cleaning Tips

Add some vinegar to the water you are using to clean your windows

Remove nasty watermarks from furniture

Put a little vinegar on a piece of a soft cloth and rub to get out the marks; I would suggest you test this somewhere on the furniture that will not show before you try it.

Carpet stains

use 1/4 cup of white vinegar, 1 tbsp. of dawn dish soap, fill with water. spray area and let soak for 5- 10 minutes and then proceed with blotting with a clean, dry, towel, until the stain is removed.

Leather furniture

Mix equal parts water and vinegar, put in a spray bottle and spray it and use a soft cloth spread it all over after some time has passed then you wipe it off with a soft cloth

Pour raw vinegar directly on any grass, or other weeds you want dead.

Bad smelling feet

You know when you take off your shoes and everyone runs for cover. Smelly feet can be helped by adding a little vinegar to some water and soaking your feet for about 15 minutes, maybe three or four times a week, it will help.

Mildew on clothes

Mix baking soda and vinegar and rub on mildew stains, let it rest for a couple of hours and then wash, the stain should be all gone.

Great for cleaning your computer screen. Dust off any dust first, then mix equal parts water to vinegar in a spray bottle and spray on a clean cloth and use it to wipe your screen, you will have a smear-free computer. This can be done for most electronics. (Do not spray directly on to screen; may cause damage)

Stainless steel

Add just a little vinegar to your water, to wipe down your stainless steel appliances, they will look shiny and brand new.

Removes deodorant stains

Those unsightly deodorant stains can be removed from your clothes. Just rub a little vinegar on the area, let it rest for about an hour and then wash.

Add to wash

Add some vinegar to your final rinse when washing your clothes and this can be your fabric softener.

Wipe floor

It will make your floors shiny and house smelling fresh at the same time. But do not use too often on tiled floors; it will eat out the grout. Just add some vinegar to the water you are using to wipe the floor.

Clean your clothes iron

Add equal parts water to equal parts vinegar and leave it in the iron, overnight;  getting rid of the mineral built up. In the morning you throw out that water and put fresh water in the iron and plug it in and let it steam. Press an old cotton dress or top to make sure to get rid of any residue.

Household vinegar (cleaning hacks) is the same white vinegar we use all the time.

I work for a professional cleaning product company and as good as those products are I still use vinegar on the daily! I have yet to try it on clothes however, I have some bikinis that have gotten moldy so I will let you know how it goes. Thanks so much for the tip Deborah!
