It is natural for us to believe that we have done something wrong when bad things happen to us; but is this true?

For instance, I have been dealing with illnesses for a couple of years. This last one is going on for three years, I did a lot of tests and they could not find my complaint.

However 2 days ago I was diagnosed with migraines when the neurologist told me I had a migraine, my first response was ” are you telling me nothing is wrong with me” because I am thinking it cannot be a migraine.

where does sickness come from
Sickness is a result of sin

For example, I had been suffering from a tightness in my head and weakness daily for almost three years; my daily life is affected. You have to understand that all I knew of migraine was that it was a very bad headache.

Furthermore, imagine my surprise when I started to do my research on migraines and realized it was no joke.

In fact, I had gone through so much emotion:

  1. Angry at God
  2. Depression
  3. Giving up on life
  4. Saying this is my cross to bear
  5. Stop caring one way or another

Is my sickness punishment from GOD?

Sickness is the consequence of SIN

Do you believe that sickness is retribution for your sins?

Is my sickness from God

Why do we get sick

We get sick because of disobedience; we live contrary to the commands of God. Also to bring honor and glory to God; when God heals us from some terrible illness, those looking on will know that your God is Great. Look at Job he is such a great example of someone who was truly living for Christ but got sick.

“So went Satan forth from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils, from the sole of his foot unto his crown” (Job 2:7).

Job 13 23-24

23 How many are mine iniquities and sins? make me to know my transgression and my sin.

24 Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and holdest me for thine enemy?

Even Job was wondering if it was because of something he had done why he got sick.

Practical ways to deal with our sickness

  1. Find out the cause
  2. Make lifestyle changes, where necessary
  3. Take your medications
  4. Pray to God
  5. Positive attitude Feeling Discouraged About Life?

“Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.” ~ James 5:14-15

Practice the eight laws of health

Eat healthy, preferably a plant-based diet

Exercise at least 5 times for the week for at least 30 minutes, just make sure you to get your heart rate up and get to sweating!

  1. swimming
  2. aerobics
  3. cycling
  4. Walking

Equally important is to keep your body hydrated The Importance Of Drinking Water

Make sure to get adequate sunlight. If you do not get enough sunlight where you live, make sure to take your vitamin D supplements

Similarly, it is very important to be temperate in everything we do; do not overdo things. You can be intemperate with things that are good for you too. Moderation is key to everything you do.

In addition, fresh air is very important for your health. Turn off the air conditioner and sleep with your windows open. Our cells need oxygen, water and nutrition to function properly. Some things in our home that poisons the air:

  1. Scented candles
  2. Air fresheners- respiratory problems
  3. Pesticides- Parkinson disease
  4. Cleaning chemicals
  5. Lead paint- can cause brain damage
  6. Mold-mucus build-up (sinus)
  7. Carpets- hold in fumes and chemicals

Proper rest is very important for your health. If you do not get adequate rest, here are a few things that will be affected

  1. Your immune system will be compromised
  2. Lack of concentration
  3. Impatience
  4. Impaired cognitive performance(fatigue)

Trust in God

Is my sickness punishment from God. I believe that God does not want us to suffer.

Believe in God with all your being. Knowing without a shadow of a doubt that whatever is happening in your life is for your good; I know it is hard sometimes especially when sickness is rocking your body.

Is my sickness from God
Jesus Heal Me
Psalm 139 v 14

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

Psalm 37 v 23-29

23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.

24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lordupholdeth him with his hand.

25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

26 He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.

27 Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.

28 For the Lord loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.

29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.

Is my sickness punishment from God? The answer is that sickness came about because of sin. We need to understand that it is not God’s will for us to suffer but he permits it, as in Job’s case . Satan was allowed to touch Job because God knew that it would bring honor to his name because Job would trust him no matter what.

For instance, we need to study God’s words and hold him to his promises. Prayer and belief in very important for our healing. We must trust God that he will always take care of us. When Your Faith Is Being Tested

“But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’ declares the LORD” ~ Jeremiah 30:17

In conclusion

However, whatever maladies we have, if it is God’s will that we should live with it. Ask the Lord to help us to remain faithful no matter what.

I know it is not easy because a lot of times I feel like God has forsaken me, but then I come back to reality and remember that God loves me with an everlasting love.

  • “Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you…” Exodus 23:25

i have been sick for the last 4 1/2 years – had to leave graduate school and haven’t worked or felt good since then… have to believe God has a purpose and this is not a punishment. 😀

Great point about the toxins in our air. There are downsides to so many of the toxic chemicals we breathe, eat and apply to our bodies, especially for those with health conditions. Praying for your healing.
